Raw Dog Food Safety & Handling

Practical handling and storage reminders for frozen raw pet food, together with links to the product label and independent public-health and veterinary resources.

START WITH THE LABEL

Handling Matters.

Alpha Pack’s current label instructs customers to keep the product frozen, thaw under refrigeration, keep raw pet food separate from other foods, wash hands after handling, clean and sanitize food-contact items and surfaces, refrigerate unused portions after thawing, and keep the product out of reach of children.

Independent perspective: CDC does not recommend feeding raw pet food to dogs and cats, and AVMA discourages feeding raw or undercooked animal-source protein because of risks to animal and human health. Alpha Pack links to those positions directly so customers can make informed decisions with their veterinarian.

Keep It Frozen

Follow the storage instructions on the current product label. Keep frozen product appropriately stored until ready for use.

Thaw Under Refrigeration

The Alpha Pack label instructs customers to thaw under refrigeration. CDC also advises against thawing frozen raw pet food on a countertop or in a sink.

Separate Raw Pet Food

Keep raw pet food separate from human food and avoid cross-contact with preparation areas and utensils used for people.

Wash Hands

Wash hands with soap and water before and after handling pet food or treats. CDC identifies handwashing as an important food-safety step.

Clean Bowls, Utensils & Surfaces

Clean and sanitize bowls, utensils, preparation surfaces, and storage containers after contact with raw pet food.

Handle Leftovers Carefully

Follow the product label for unused portions. The Alpha Pack label says to refrigerate unused portions immediately after thawing.

Consider the Household

CDC identifies young children, older adults, pregnant people, and people with weakened immune systems as groups that can face greater risk from foodborne germs.

Talk With a Veterinarian
